MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Sophomore Marquez Brooks scored a career-high 26 points to lead three AUM players in double figures, but Loyola withstood a late charge by the Warhawks and picked up a 76-71 victory in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 5-22 on the season and 2-15 in conference play, while the Wolfpack improved to 17-9 overall and 9-7 in the league.

Brooks scored 15 of his game-best total in the second half and helped AUM outscore Loyola 40-38 in the period. Senior Michael Lee added 19 points in the game, while fellow senior Alex Hergott added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Lee also added nine rebounds and three steals. Hergott and freshman Da'Keidres Wade each had three blocks.

For the game, the Warhawks converted 47.3 percent of their shots from the floor, including 44.4 percent (8-of-14) from behind the arc. AUM also knocked down 11-of-13 free throws.

Despite the solid shooting performance, the Warhawks committed 23 turnovers which led to 19 points for the Wolfpack. In addition, Loyola went to the charity stripe 21 times, hitting 18 in the close game.

Trailing by 15 points, 61-46, with 9:19 remaining in the game, AUM put together its best run of the game, scoring nine straight and pulling within six following a Brooks' jumper. The Warhawks followed with a 9-4 spurt and had the deficit down to one point, 65-64, with 4:31 remaining on a trey by freshman Justin Trotter. However, the Wolfpack closed out the game by hitting 9-of-10 free throws to maintain the lead before settling on the five-point final margin.

Loyola was led by Robert Lovaglio's 19 points. Cameron Cates added 10 points and 11 rebounds, while McCall Tomeny finished with 17 points.

AUM will close out its 2011-12 season on Saturday, Feb. 25, when it travels to Faulkner for a 4 p.m. contest.
