TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. ---- Former Auburn Montgomery baseball standout Andrew Morris has signed a professional contract to pitch for the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League.

Morris, a Prattville native, spent one season with the Warhawks, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.68 earned run average. He appeared in 18 games, including 12 starts, and tossed 73 1/3 innings, struck out 67 batters and recorded two saves.

In his 18 appearances, Morris tallied five or more strikeouts eight times, including a season-best seven against Thomas University. He tossed a season-high 8 1/3 innings in a relief effort against conference-foe Loyola.

Morris transferred to AUM from Auburn University, where he appeared in 13 games as a junior. He was also a two-time NJCAA All-American at Gulf Coast Community College, where he finished his two-year career with a 22-2 record. He was twice selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB Amateur Draft.

Morris joins several other Warhawks in the Frontier League. Chase Burch, who lettered at AUM in 2008, is also a member of the Beach Bums, while Cody Hall and Sam Judah play for the Southern Illinois Minors and Normal CornBelters, respectively.

Morris and the Beach Bums will open their 2013 on Friday, May 17, when they host the Joliet Slammers. For additional information about the team, visit www.traversecitybeachbums.com.
