TOWSON, Md. ---- Auburn Montgomery sophomore midfielder Elvar Sigurdsson was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

The Kopavogur, Iceland, native was previously named to the Capital One Academic All-District First-Team and the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. He currently has a 3.76 grade-point average while majoring in biology.

Sigurdsson also received all-conference second-team honors for his performance on the field. He played an important role for the Warhawks this year, leading the team in assists (7) and shots (88) and ranking second in goals (12) and points (31). Three of his goals were game-winners.

He recorded multi-goal games on four occasions, most recently against Jamestown in the Second Round of the NAIA National Tournament. After back-to-back five points performances against Brewton-Parker (Sept. 28) and Emmanuel (Sept. 29), Sigurdsson was named the SSAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 16,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
