Men's Tennis - Wed. Mar. 20, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ---- For the first time in his highly-decorated career, Auburn Montgomery sophomore men's tennis All-American Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff has been named the NAIA's Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday.

The four-time Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week becomes the first Warhawk to earn the distinction since Marlu Jansen Van Vuuren was selected for the honor following the week of March 19-25, 2012.

Last week, Pinones-Haltenhoff posted a 5-1 combined singles and doubles record, all against top-10 teams of NCAA Division II, Lynn, Barry and Rollins.

He recorded two singles victories, each coming at the top flight, including a 7-5, 6-2, win against D-II's No. 4 Willi Wolfer of Lynn University. His lone singles loss came at the hands of the seventh-ranked player in Division II.

In doubles, he teamed with Miguel Grifol to win all three matches. He and Grifol are currently 10-0 on the season as a doubles tandem.

Pinones-Haltenhoff and the Warhawks will return to action on Friday, March 22, when they travel to Lebanon, Tenn., to challenge No. 11 Cumberland University. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
