MT. VERNON, Ga. ----- The Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team opened its weekend Southern States Athletic Conference road trip with a 3-1 victory at Brewton-Parker on Friday.
With the win, the Warhawks improved to 7-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play. The Lady Barons fell to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in conference games.
The Warhawks controlled the contest from the outset, posting a 36-4 advantage in total shots.
Junior Maria Ros Arngrimsdottir opened the scoring for AUM, netting her second goal of the season in the 20th minute. Senior Arna Omarsdottir assisted on the goal.
Leading 1-0 at halftime, junior Dagmar Gunnarsdottir doubled the lead for the Warhawks with her sixth goal of the year just 10 minutes into the second period. The goal, which was assisted on by senior Alexandra Sveinsdottir, tied Gunnarsdottir for the team lead with fellow junior Eyrun Rakel Agnarsdottir.
After a goal by BPC's Holly Harrod trimmed the deficit to 2-1, freshman Brady Glenn put the match out of reach with a score with just under 15 minutes to play to provide the final margin.
Junior Chloe Crook was solid in goal, stopping the lone shot she faced in the victory. Junior Nicole Letford finished with a game-high nine shots, while Gunnarsdottir added eight.
AUM will return to action on Saturday, when it travels to No. 20 Brenau for a 4:30 p.m. tilt.
