CLINTON, Miss. – The Auburn Montgomery cross country teams traveled to Mississippi College to participate in the Watson Ford Invitational on Friday, held at Choctaw Trails, the same course that will host the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship in early November.
The women's team finished the meet sixth of 11 teams, while the men finished eighth of nine.
Katherine Toy paced the Warhawks, as she received her third top-ten finish this season. Toy completed the race in 25:10.89, good enough for seventh in a field of 79. Sharlie Brooks and HollyAnn Goble finished 23rd and 28th, respectively. Brooks crossed the finish line at 26:39.29, while Goble came in at 26:52.32. Caitie Cunningham (29:42.96) and Kamesha Strong (30:10.03) rounded out the top five for AUM.
Collectively, the Warhawks amassed 157 points, which put them only six points back from finishing fifth. West Florida bested the other 10 schools in the team portion with 27 points, although it was Savannah Roland of North Alabama who captured individual accolades with a time of 23:41.94.
On the men's side, Zach Sollie completed the race first for the Warhawks, coming in 20th in a field of 79, with a time of 29:10.79. Andrew Russell (30:13.50) came in 31st, while Mike Bulger III (31:22.12) was 41st in the field. Closing out the scoring were Shaw Cornelius and Adam Russell. Cornelius finished 43rd with a time of 31:48.00, while Russell recorded a time of 37:46.56 to come in 63rd.
As a team, the Warhawks finished with 172 points. West Florida took the team title with only 15 points. The Argos claimed the first six positions, with Cody Haden crossing first with a time of 26:30.47.
AUM will be return to action when it travels to Lanett, Ala., to compete in the Skyhawk Invitational on Friday, October 11.
