MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Faulkner's De Hereford drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key with just under two seconds remaining in the contest to give the Eagles a 49-46 win over the Auburn University at Montgomery men's basketball team Thursday evening at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

The Senators (6-14, 3-3 SSAC) trailed by as many as seven points in the second half, but rallied back to tie the score at 40-40 on a free throw by freshman A.J. Ansley. Trailing by two, 46-44, with 31 seconds remaining, senior Charles Perona calmly sank two free throws to tie the score and set the stage for Hereford's game-winning shot.

Junior Alex Hergott finished with a team-high 12 points, while Perona added 10 points. Junior Stephen Jordan added eight points and a team-best seven rebounds. Hergott chipped in six reobunds.

The Senators jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 3:31, as Hergott scored five straight points to open the game.

Despite the spurt to open the game, Faulkner (7-15, 2-4 SSAC) responded with four 3-pointers to tie the score at 12-12 with 12:45 remaining in the period.

AUM countered with a second 7-0 run of the half, keyed by treys from Hergott and Perona. However, the Eagles battled back, taking a two point lead, 26-24, with 2:10 left in the half. The two squads alternated baskets in the final two minutes, sending Faulkner to the locker room with a two-point advantage.

For the game, AUM hit 35.4 percent of its shots, while the Eagles knocked down just 33.9 percent. Faulkner committed 24 turnovers, but held a 39-26 advantage on the glass.

Chris Palmore led all scorers with 14 points to pace Faulkner, while Birama Konate grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds.

AUM will return to action on Saturday, when it travels to Jackson, Miss., to take on Belhaven. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
