ATLANTA ---- Senior Ana Veselinovic did not drop a set en route to the single championship and teamed with sophomore Jade Curtis to win the doubles championship this weekend at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, hosted by SCAD-Atlanta, at the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center.

Veselinovic defeated three ranked opponents on the way to the championships. The Herceg-Novi, Montenegro native opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brenau's Maria Perdomo Medina, before defeating No. 8 seed Maja Plavsic of SCAD-Atlanta, 6-0, 6-1. In the semifinals, Veselinovic defeated No. 5 seed and senior teammate Kveta Hajkova, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the finals, where she made short work of No. 3 seed Lyn See Choo of Brenau, 6-0, 6-3.

Hajkova won a pair of singles match of the tournament, defeating Brenau's Theresa Neumeyr, 6-0, 6-0, in the round of 16 and Shorter's Candace Laurent, 6-0, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, before falling in the seminfinals.

Along with Veselinovic and Hajkova, Curtis also enjoyed success in the singles draw, winning a pair of matches before falling to Choo in the semifinals. Curtis opened play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Carolyn Kernodle of SCAD-Atlanta and defeated Kourtney Howell of Xavier, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Veselinovic and Curtis made short work of the field, as the tandem defeated Brenau's Eline Nagels and Stephanie Moniz in the opening round, 8-4, and Xavier's Howell and Nicole DeLoach, 8-0, in the semifinals. In the finals, the AUM duo defeated Choo and Medina, 6-0, 6-4, to win the championship.

As a result of the victories, Veselinovic and Curtis will each advance to the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, held in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 13-16. Veselinovic will compete in both singles and doubles play, while Curtis and Veselinovic will participate in the doubles tournament.
