MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball team missed its first eight shots from the floor and shot just 29.9 percent for the game, as Mobile rolled to a 72-54 win over the Warhawks Thursday evening at the AUM Physical Education Complex.
With the loss, AUM fell to 9-9 on the season and 4-5 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Lady Rams improved to 6-12 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Junior Matika Sterling came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points for the Warhawks, while sophomore Keisha Moore added 13 points, on just 5-of-22 shooting.
For the game, AUM converted just 20-of-67 shots, including 5-of-21 from behind the arc. The Warhawks also struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 9-of-18 shots. Mobile made the most of its chances, hitting 50.9 percent from the field.
The Warhawks were also controlled on the boards, being outrebounded 43-35, but actually held a 16-10 lead in second-chance points. However, the Lady Rams posted 41 points in the paint, compared to just 28 by AUM.
Mobile was led by Allison Michael and Alice Honnery with 16 points each. Daphnee Frieson added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
AUM will look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 21, when it travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., to take on William Carey. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
