HATTIESBURG, Miss. ---- Junior Matika Sterling scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her first career double-double, but the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball dropped a 76-60 Southern States Athletic Conference decision to William Carey Saturday.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 9-10 on the season and 4-6 in league play. The Lady Crusaders improved to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in conference games.

Sophomore Keisha Moore joined Sterling in double figures, scoring 13 points, while senior Haley Williams added seven points. Senior Areial Woods and freshman Jazmine Jackson each chipped in six points.

For the game, AUM converted 36.5 percent of its shots from the floor, but made just eight first-half field goals, as the Warhawks trailed by 15 at the half, 39-24. AUM also struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 18-of-32 for the game, but only 10-of-21 in the second half. The Warhawks committed 21 turnovers, leading to 24 points for William Carey.

On the boards, AUM held a 41-39 advantage, but posted just one more second-chance point. In addition to Sterling's game-high 12 rebounds, junior LaKenya Drayton chipped in five rebounds, while freshman Marren Schwartz added four. Moore and junior Ashley deVries each finished with three boards.

Crystal Tucker led three Lady Crusaders with a game-high 22 points, while Erica Moore and Ciera Sibley added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Tucker also finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

The Warhawks will look to rebound on Thursday, Jan. 26, when they travel to the University of New Orleans for a 6 p.m. tip.
