HATTIESBURG, Miss. ---- William Carey knocked down better than 55 percent of its shots for the game and raced out to a 16-point halftime lead, as the Crusaders defeat AUM Saturday in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 5-13 on the season and 2-8 in SSAC games. The Crusaders improved to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in league play.

Sophomore A.J. Ansley led AUM with 13 points, while senior Alex Hergott and freshman Justin Zachary added eight points each. Freshmen Cameron Pridemore and Justin Trotter each chipped in seven points, while the Warhawks' leading scorer, sophomore Marquez Brooks, was limited to just five points.

For the game, AUM converted just 39 percent of its shots, hitting 16-of-41 field goal attempts. The Warhawks did most of its damage offensively at the charity stripe, where they knocked down 23 free throws. William Carey finished 34-of-61 from the field, adding nine 3-pointers.

The Warhawks fell on the boards, 30-28, and also committed 17 turnovers, leading to 19 points for the Crusaders. Hergott and freshman Da'Keidres Wade each pulled down six rebounds to lead AUM.

WCU's Roderick Little led all players with 22 points, while Donzedrick Smith chipped in 20 points off the bench. Jamal Doss added eight points and three blocks.

The Warhawks will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they travel to Livingston, Ala., to take on West Alabama. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
