MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- The Auburn University at Montgomery athletic department hosted its Academic Honor Roll breakfast Thursday, at which 87 student-athletes were recognized for earning a 3.0 grade point average for better for the 2011 Fall semester.
Of the 87 student-athletes honored, 53 were named to the Provost Honor Roll for achieving a 3.5 GPA or above for the term. Of those honored on the Provost's list, 16 had a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The men's soccer and baseball teams led all programs with 18 individuals honored, while the softball team had 12 student-athletes recognized. The women's basketball team finished with 10 on the honor roll.
"Our department is so proud of these student-athletes who so capably balance the academic obligations with the challenges of competing in collegiate athletics," said Athletic Director Steve Crotz. "I commend our coaching staff for keeping academics as the primary focus of our student-athletes' success."
The cumulative GPA for all student-athletes during this term was 2.91. Of AUM's 10 varsity teams, five recorded team grade point averages of 3.0 or better.
The AUM athletic department held a special breakfast recognizing and honoring each of these student-athletes for their outstanding performance, where each student-athlete was presented a certificate of achievement from AUM Interim Provost, Dr. Jennifer Brown.
