Women's Tennis - Mon. Mar. 26, 2012
NORCROSS, Ga. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery senior Kveta Hajkova has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Hajkova earned the honor after helping the Warhawks to a 3-0 record on the week, with two of those victories being against teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Her recognition also marks the second consecutive AUM student-athlete to earn the award, as Jade Curtis was selected the SSAC and NAIA Player of the Week last week.
The Bratislava, Slovakia, native, was nearly flawless in singles play, dropping just four games during the week. She began the week with a straight-set victory over Annie Sandberg of No. 16 Lee, and followed that win up with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of No. 24 Xavier's Jordyn Goody. She capped the week with a 6-2, 6-1, victory against Fanny Benincasa of Division II New Orleans.
Along with her success in singles play, Hajkova also enjoyed a stellar week in doubles play, teaming with Morgane Zowczak to post a 3-0 record.
On the season, Hajkova is one of two AUM players to record a perfect 16-0 singles record, having played at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 positions. She has also tallied a 12-1 record in doubles play.
Hajkova and the No. 1 Warhawks (15-1) will return to action Wednesday, March 28, when they hit the road to challenge perennial Division II powerhouse Armstrong Atlantic. The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
