NORCROSS, Ga. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery senior pitcher Andrew Morris has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Morris, a native of Prattville, Ala., helped the Warhawks to a 4-0 record on the week, including a three-game series sweep of SSAC foe Loyola this weekend.
In two appearances this past week, Morris tossed 15 1/3 innings, allowing 11 hits and striking out 13, while walking just two. He allowed only two runs, only one of which was earned, and recorded victories in each game. His earned run average for the week was 0.59, and as a result, dropped his season ERA 1.03 runs this past week to 2.90.
Morris began the week by throwing 7.0 efficient innings against Thomas University on Tuesday, in which he scattered six hits and allowed just one run. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk in the victory.
He followed up his strong start with 8 1/3 innings of one-run relief against the Wolfpack to help the Warhawks rally from an early three-run deficit and win in extra innings. Morris struck out six and allowed just five hits, while picking up the win.
On the season, Morris sports a 4-4 overall record, tossing 49 2/3 innings and allowing 49 hits and 16 earned runs. He has struck out 45 hitters and opponents are hitting just .255 against him on the year.
