KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- Auburn University at Montgomery standout Marlu Jansen Van Vuuren has been selected the NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Thursday.
Jansen Van Vuuren was selected based on his performance from March 19-25 and was chosen from the pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selection.
For the week, the freshman from East London, South Africa, enjoyed a perfect week in which he went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play. In No. 4 singles action, Jansen Van Vuuren defeated Renan Molineiro of No. 15 Lee (Tenn.), 6-1, retired, rolled past Amir Rahbar of No. 9 Xavier (La.), 6-1, 6-0, and followed it up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yoshikazu Ysa of University of New Orleans.
Van Vuuren teamed with Matias Dasso for a 9-7 win over Lee at No. 2 doubles, an 8-4 victory over Xavier's No. 2 doubles pair and an 8-2 triumph in No. 3 doubles over University of New Orleans.
Jansen Van Vuuren improved to 15-1 in singles play and 7-9 in doubles action on the season.
The No. 5 Warhawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Lindsey Wilson at 1 p.m.
