NORCROSS, Ga. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery outfielder Shane Turner has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference's Baseball Hitter of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Turner, a junior from Red Level, Ala., continued his strong inaugural season with the Warhawks, by hitting .467, with a homer and seven runs batted in during the four-game span. On the week, AUM posted a 2-2 record, including taking two-of-three games at Brewton-Parker to earn its fourth consecutive SSAC series victory.
For the week, Turner finished 7-for-15 at the plate, scored three runs, was hit by two pitches and walked once. He also added a stolen base, while posting a slugging percentage of .667 and an on-base percentage of .556. Highlighting the week was a 4-for-5 effort in the series finale against the Barons, in which he drove in a career-best six runs, four of which came on a grand slam.
On the season, Turner ranks third on the team with a .348 batting average. He has a team-high 13 doubles, while adding four home runs and 28 RBIs. He has scored 29 runs and swiped three bases.
Turner and the Warhawks return to action Friday, April 13, when they travel to Cleveland, Tenn., to open a three-game SSAC series against Lee University. Opening pitch of game one is slated for 5 p.m.
