NORCROSS, Ga. --- Auburn University at Montgomery freshman standout Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
In two matches last week, Pinones-Haltenhoff recorded a 2-0 record in singles and doubles play, helping the Warhawks to a pair of victories over ranked opponents.
He opened the week with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Romain Ferriera of No. 25 Shorter, while also earning a doubles point with an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 position. His week was highlighted on Sunday, when he defeated Jody Claasen (ranked sixth in singles by the ITA) at the top singles spot, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). He again teamed with Zinelabidine Jouini for a doubles victory at the No. 2 position.
On the season, the Barcelona, Spain, native, sports a 16-4 singles record, playing entirely at the No. 1 spot, and a 15-5 doubles mark.
Pinones-Haltenhoff and the Warhawks will conclude their regular season Tuesday by hosting NCAA Division III power Emory at 1 p.m.
