NORCROSS, Ga. --- Auburn University at Montgomery senior Michael Carden was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Carden, who is from Cottondale, Ala., helped the Warhawks to a 3-2 record on the week by posting a 2-1 record with a 0.68 earned run average. He tossed 13 1/3 innings, allowing just nine hits and two runs, while striking out 15.
In his first appearance of the week, Carden tossed a complete-game, six-hitter against Talladega College. He struck out nine and walked just one in the outing, while earning the victory. He followed the strong start with 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief against No. 2 Lee, striking out six and walking none in a tough-luck loss. Carden capped the week with 2 2/3 scoreless innings and picked up his second win of the week in an extra-inning victory over the Flames.
On the season, Carden sports a 4-2 record with a 1.88 ERA in 43.0 innings pitched. He has struck out 59 hitters and allowed opponents to hit just .223 against him in 19 appearances. In his three starts on the year, Carden has tossed 16.0 innings, striking out 24 and allowing just three runs.
Carden and the Warhawks will return to action Wednesday, when they host Talladega College in a single game, beginning at 6 p.m.
