NORCROSS, Ga. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery softball senior Brandi Richards has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Richards earned the honor for the fifth time during her career and first time this season. The Covington, Ga., native, has also been awarded the league's Player of the Week twice and the NAIA's Pitcher of the Week once during her career.
For the week, Richards finished 3-0 and scattered just five hits in 24.0 innings, highlighted by her fourth career no-hitter against Faulkner. She followed with an 11-strikeout performance against Mobile, allowing just four hits in a 10.0 inning victory, before pitching a one-hit shutout against Spring Hill on Senior Day. During the span, she struck out 30 hitters and posted an earned run average of 0.88.
On the season, Richards sports a 10-9 record with an ERA of 1.26. She has struck out 185 batters in 122.0 innings pitched and allowed opponents to hit just .158. She has tossed 14 complete games and notched a pair of saves.
Richards and the Warhawks will return to action on Thursday, April 26, when they take on Brenau in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, held in Columbus, Ga. First pitch against the Golden Tigers is slated for 1 p.m. Central.
