Women's Tennis - Thu. May. 31, 2012
KANSAS CITY, Mo. ----- Following its second consecutive NAIA national championship, the Auburn University at Montgomery women's tennis team was tabbed the unanimous choice atop the postseason NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Thursday.

The Warhawks earned the top spot in the postseason poll for the eighth time in the last nine seasons.

AUM finished with all 13 first-place votes and a total of 343 points. Embry-Riddle, which the Warhawks defeated 5-2 in the national championship match, was second with a total of 332 points. Fresno Pacific finished third with 321 points, while Oklahoma Christian and Azusa Pacific rounded out the top five, respectively.

In the final poll, AUM was one of five Southern States Athletic Conference teams ranked. The Warhawks were joined by No. 6 Brenau, No. 9 William Carey, No. 11 Shorter and No. 20 Lee. Belhaven was also among the other's receiving votes in the final rankings.

With the top ranking, the Warhawks pushed their NAIA-leading all-time No. 1 appearances to 67. Only one other institution, Brenau, has recorded double-figure weeks atop the poll, having spent 10 weeks in the No. 1 position.

The Warhawks finished the season with a 26-2 record, including a 19-2 mark against teams ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA and NCAA Division I, II and III. The championship also marks the eighth time in nine year that AUM has taken home the championship banner and the 10th in 13 tries since the NAIA adopted the team format in 2000. During the 2012 season, AUM posted a 114-32 record in singles play and a 58-25 mark in doubles matches.
