TOWSON, Md. ---- Auburn University at Montgomery senior third baseman Hunter Cross has been voted to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Baseball Third-Team, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
A native of Grove Hill, Ala., Cross has recorded a 3.62 grade point average, while majoring in criminal justice. He was also recently named to the SSAC's All-Academic team.
In addition to his academic success, Cross posted a .299 batting average, with eight home runs and a team-best 50 runs batted in on the season. He tied for the team-lead with 14 doubles, added a triple and 29 runs scored. His .513 slugging percentage ranked second on the team and he was hit by a team-high 11 pitches.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
