NORCROSS, Ga. ----- Auburn University at Montgomery senior forward Margret Albertsdottir has been selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Albertsdottir, who is from Grindavik, Iceland, finished the week with three goals, including a two-goal effort against SCAD-Savannah on Sunday.
"I am certainly very happy for Margret on this well-deserved honor," head coach Jamey Newsome said. "After playing through injuries much of last season, she is healthy at this point and her play is reflective. She is putting herself in the right positions to score and taking advantage of those opportunities."
In the two matches last week, Albertsdottir finished with 12 shots, with four finding the target. She posted a season-high seven shots, scoring once, in the Warhawks' upset of No. 7 Martin Methodist in her first outing of the week. She followed up with five shots and two goals against the Bees.
Currently 3-0 on the young season, the Warhawks are off to their best start since 2006, when they also started with three consecutive victories. In the undefeated start, AUM has outscored its opponents 13-4 and holds a 75-21 advantage in total shots.
AUM will return to action on Friday, Sept. 7, when it travels to in-state rival Montevallo for a 7 p.m. tilt.
