CENTRAL, S.C. ---- The Auburn University at Montgomery men's and women's cross country teams each competed in the Southern Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. The men finished fourth in the meet, while the women placed ninth.

The men's squad finished with a total of 115 points in the 65-runner field. Limestone took home the top team honors with a score of 38 points. The women recorded 231 points, led by senior Katherine Toy's career-best showing.

Freshman Zach Sollie paced the Warhawks with a time 29:02 on the 8K track to finish 17th. Senior Ryan Schwarzman finished just four seconds behind in 18th, while freshman Garrett Carr was closely after with a time 29:14 to finish 19th.

Freshman Andrew Russell posted a fourth sub-30 time for AUM, finishing in 29:53 and in 29th place. Fellow freshmen Josh Jenkins and Shaw Cornelius finished 44th and 45th with times of 31:43 and 31:54 respectively. Sophomore Adam Russell and freshman Aaron West rounded out the scoring for the Warhawks. Russell recorded a time of 32:56, while West clocked a 35:05.

University of the South's Anthony Vecchio earned the individual championship with a time of 26:37.

For the women, Toy continued her strong senior campaign with a career-best time of 21:29 and finished 19th in the 5K event.

Freshman Raquel Anecito finished in 24:31, while sophomore Jordan Holley recorded a time of 29:34. Seniors Areial Woods and Stephanie Torrence rounded out the scoring with times of 29:35 and 31:52, respectively.

Southern States Athletic Conference foe Brenau captured the team championship with 54 points, holding off host Southern Wesleyan by six points. Brittany Aikens of Brenau won the meet with a time 18:45.

Both teams will return to action Friday, October 5, when they participate in the Skyhawk Invitational, hosted by Point University. The meet is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
