MOBILE, Ala. ------ After rallying from a two-goal halftime deficit to tie the score, the No. 3 Auburn University at Montgomery men's soccer team surrendered four unanswered goals and was upset by No. 23 Mobile, 6-2, Wednesday.
With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 8-2-1 on the season and 4-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Rams improved to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in league matches.
Senior Vitor Silva and sophomore Elvar Sigurdsson each scored early in the second half to help AUM erase a 2-0 halftime deficit. Freshman Agust Arnarson assisted on Silva's goal, while Sigurdsson scored his fifth goal in three games with an unassisted goal at the 58:27 mark.
In the match, each team attempted 17 shots, with the Rams holding a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. Sigurdsson finished with a team-high five shots, including three on goal.
Junior Vignir Johannesson stopped two shots in goal for AUM.
The Rams were paced by Naissim Ayadi and Stephen Okai who scored twice apiece. Ayadi also added two assists. Xavier Audergon posted six saves in goal for Mobile.
The Warhawks will return to action Saturday, October 6, when they travel to Georgia Gwinnett for a 1 p.m. tilt.
