CLEVELAND, Tenn. ------ Four-time defending national champions No. 2 Lee scored once in each half, as the Lady Flames defeated the No. 12 Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team 2-0 Thursday at the Lee Soccer Complex.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 9-2-1 on the season and 4-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The Lady Flames improved to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in league matches.

AUM matched Lee in shots in the match at 11 each. Sophomore Nicole Letford finished with a team-high three shots, a mark which was equaled by the Lady Flames' Ode Fulutudilu and Marie Eliassen.

The difference in the match came on goals by Laura Thacker and Leah Fortune for Lee. The duo connected on the deciding goal at the 30:56 mark of the opening half when Thacker headed in a corner kick by Fortune to give the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead.

The Warhawks had their best scoring opportunities in late in the half, when sophomore Maria Ros Arngrimsdottir and seniors Karina Suetsugu and Melissa Ledesma all put shots on goal in the final during a four-minute span. However, Lee goalkeeper Leah Wilson was up to the challenge, stopping each attempt.

For AUM, sophomore Holly Clarke recorded five saves in goal.

The Warhawks will return to action Saturday, when they host conference foe Brenau at 1 p.m.
