MONTGOMERY, Ala. ----- Brenau's Esther Anyanwu scored her conference-leading 20th goal of the season in the 12th minute of the match, as the Golden Tigers upset the No. 12 Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer team 1-0 Saturday in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

With the loss, the Warhawks fell to 9-3-1 overall and 4-3 in league play. Brenau improved to 10-3 on the year and 6-2 in SSAC matches.

Currently fourth in the nation in scoring, Anyanwu scored just 11:40 into the match, as she worked past a defender and AUM's goalkeeper to complete the deciding score.

In the contest, the Warhawks had opportunities, outshooting the Tigers 16-12. However, only three of those 16 shots were on target.

Sophomore Maria Ros Arngrimsdottir led the team with five shots, including all three shots on goal. Senior Margret Albertsdottir added three shots.

AUM goalkeeper Holly Clarke stopped five shots in the game, while Tori Brown saved three shots to earn the shutout for Brenau.

The competition will continue to be tough for the Warhawks, as they will take on No. 5 William Carey in their next match on Wednesday, October 17, at 5 p.m.
