CLINTON, Miss. ----- The Auburn University at Montgomery men's and women's cross country teams each competed in the 2012 Choctaw Open on Saturday, with the men finishing 14th and the women placing 20th.

The meet was hosted by Mississippi College and will be run at the Choctaw Trails, the same track as the Southern States Athletic Conference championship on November 3.

Senior Ryan Schwarzman paced the Warhawks on the men's side, finishing two seconds shy of a personal best with a time of 29:07 in the 8K event. Schwarzman was the top finisher for AUM, recording a 54th-place finish in the field of 158 runners.

The freshman duo of Garrett Carr and Zach Sollie also finished with a pace better than six minutes, as Carr finished 59th with a time of 29:18, while Sollie was 72nd and finished in 29:36. Fellow freshman Andrew Russell continued his strong first season, posting a 30:32 and finishing 93rd.

Rounding out the scoring the for the Warhawks were sophomore Adam Russell (126th) with a time of 33:36, and freshmen Josh Jenkins (134th), Shaw Cornelius (137th) and Aaron West (139th) in 33:58, 34:26 and 34:39, respectively.

South Alabama won the team championship, as five Jaguars finished in the top 10. Joash Osoro of William Carey earned the individual title, averaging a sub-five mile and finishing with a time of 24:38.

On the women's side, senior Katherine Toy was the top AUM runner to finish, posting a time of 21:48 on the 5K course to finish 72nd.

Freshman Raquel Anecito finished 137th with a time of 25:14, while senior Areial Woods recorded a time of 27:27. Junior Amanda Lee posted a 29:22 in her first meet of the season. Sophomore Jordan Holley and senior Stephanie Torrence rounded out the scoring, finishing in 29:53 and 33:51, respectively.

Like the men, South Alabama was the top women's team, highlighted by individual medalist Salome Lecoq, who finished with a time of 17:40.

Each team will be in action next Saturday at the Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by USC-Beaufort. The women's squad will also compete Thursday, October 18 at the Spring Hill College Badger Brawl. The meet is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
