MOBILE, Ala. ----- Freshman Alexander Neubarth scored the game-tying goal with 3:21 remaining in regulation to help the No. 5 Auburn University at Montgomery earn a 3-3 double-overtime tie on the road at Spring Hill Saturday.

The Warhawks (12-2-2, 7-1-1 SSAC) rallied from a 3-2 deficit, after the Badgers' Mario Escalante completed a hat trick with his third goal of the day at the 68:48 mark of the contest. Spring Hill now stands at 9-6-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

"The lesson learned today was two-fold," head coach Wulf Koch said. "We have to continue to improve at sharing the ball, but the other thing is that we have tremendous character on this team. We battled back on a couple of occasions when we could have given up. However, we continued to fight and even had opportunities to win the match in overtime and double overtime."

Escalante gave SHC the lead midway through the opening half, when he headed in a cross by Arturo Garcia 25:35 into the match.

The Warhawks answered near the end of the period on a goal by freshman Agust Arnarson. On the play, Arnarson took a pass from junior Vitor Silva and chipped his shot over Badgers' goalkeeper Jacob Files to tie the score at 1-1.

AUM took its only lead of the match at the 50:37 mark of the contest on the second goal of the season by senior Matias Aristegui. Christian Holthaus assisted on the goal, giving the junior at least one point in three of his four games this season.

Just over four minutes later Escalante struck again, this time off a pass from Tyler Hartlage. The goal balanced the score at two goals apiece with 35:21 remaining in regulation.

After Escalante gave the Badgers the lead, Neubarth netted his third goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Alex Vignisson to force overtime.

For the match, the Warhawks finished with two shots for every one by Spring Hill, recording 36 total shots compared to 18 for the Badgers. In the 20 overtime minutes, AUM outshot SHC 8-4. Sophomore Elvar Sigurdsson led all players with eight shots, while junior Baron Watson added six shots off the bench.

In goal, junior Vignir Johannesson notched seven saves, while Files finished with nine saves for the Badgers.

AUM will return to action Wednesday, October 24, when it hosts No. 6 Belhaven at 3:30 p.m.
