MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- The No. 23 Auburn Montgomery women's soccer team let out a month's worth of frustration in a dominant 5-0 win over Belhaven. Maria Ros Arngrimsdottir had two goals and an assist to lead the Warhawks.

AUM, which had not scored since Sept. 29 against Emmanuel, improved to 10-4-2 and 5-4-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

"It was a huge weight off of our shoulders to see the ball go into the back of the net again," Head Coach Jamey Newsome said. "We're a very good team, and we've just gone through a funk lately. Confidence is a huge thing in team sports. We lost our confidence for a while, but I think today is certainly a step in the right direction to get it back."

The combination of Christine Kelly and Alexandra Sveinsdottir ended the goal drought in the 16th minute of the first half.

Kelly dribbled through several players at midfield before leading in Sveinsdottir on a breakaway. The junior forward than maneuvered around Belhaven goalie Nicole Walsh and drilled a shot into the open net.

In the 39th minute, Arngrimsdottir doubled AUM's advantage after heading a shot past a charging Walsh for her 11th goal of the season.

The Warhawks outshot Belhaven 14-4 in the first half, and they continued to control the run of play in the second.

AUM's three second half goals came in a span of 5:35. Sophomore forward Dagmar Gunnarsdottir started the run with her second goal of the season, off of a pass from Arngrimsdottir.

A minute after the third goal, Arngrimsdottir scored her second goal of the game after a free kick from Nicole Letford. She now has 12 goals, which moves her into a tie for the team lead with Margret Albertsdottir.

Eyrun Rakel Agnarsdottir closed out the scoring in the 68th minute, taking a pass from Gunnarsdottir and directing a shot past Walsh for her fifth goal of 2012.

AUM outshot Belhaven 9-0 in the second half, and 23-4 for the game. Goalies Holly Clarke and Jimi Guibor combined for the team's seventh shutout of the season, with Clarke making AUM's only save in the first half.

Albertsdottir led AUM with seven shots. Belhaven dropped to 6-11 (4-6 SSAC) after the defeat.

The Warhawks have their final conference match of the regular season on Saturday against Faulkner. The match, which takes place at the Emory Folmar YMCA Complex, begins at 5 p.m.
