WALESKA, Ga. ---- The Auburn Montgomery women's basketball team started its 2012-13 season with a dominating 81-49 victory over Reinhardt University. AUM led 46-28 at the half and never looked back.
Keisha Moore led the Warhawks with 22 points, making five 3-point attempts. She was one of four players in double-figures for AUM. LaKenya Drayton had 14 points. Marren Schwartz added 13 and Kamesha Strong finished with 11 points in the win.
"I thought we really defended well," Head Coach Dan Davis said. "The defensive intensity was there from the beginning. We also had very good balance on offense from our inside and outside play. It was good to see. Today was a good start for us, but there's still a long way to go."
For the game, the Warhawks converted a sizzling 54.7 percent from the floor, including 13-of-21 attempts from behind the arc. AUM also dished out 16 assists, while committing just 12 turnovers.
In addition the scoring in double figures, Schwartz also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to post her career double-double. The 13 points were a career best.
AUM (1-0) improved to 19-2 overall against Reinhardt. The Warhawks have now won five straight season openers.
The team returns to action this Friday against Concordia-Selma in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic, hosted by Faulkner University. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
