Dan Davis enters his third season at the helm of the Auburn University at Montgomery women's basketball program. He has recorded a 35-24 record in his first two seasons.
In his first season as interim head women's basketball coach, Davis assembled a solid group of players and lead them to a NAIA National Tournament appearance. It was the team's 18th trip to the NAIA tournament in just 22 years, the third best record in NAIA history. Along the way, Davis earned the Southern States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.
"I am looking forward to another great season on and off the court. With the high expectations we have coming off a successful season, we want to return and make a run for the conference championship and national tournament," Davis said.
Davis has proven to be a hard-working and dedicated coach on and off the court. Davis guides the Lady Senators program in all aspects of the game from organizing and developing practice plans, to maintaining fundraising and boosters clubs and making sure the program runs efficiently. Under his leadership, nine out of 14 players were Fall 2008 Honor Roll recipients for their academic achievements and 10 for Spring 2009.
Prior to serving as interim head coach, Davis served as the women's basketball assistant coach during the 2007-08 seasons under now Athletic Director Steve Crotz. As the assistant coach, Davis served as the recruiting coordinator and provided assistance in all areas of individual and team development.
Before arriving in Montgomery, Davis spent five years at Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, Ga., as the head coach of the girls' basketball team from 2002-07. While there, Davis also served as the school's athletic director from 2005-07. His experience also includes stops at South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Ga., where he was head coach of the boys' junior varsity basketball team and Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., where he was head coach of the boys' basketball varsity squad.
Davis is a 1999 AUM graduate where he was a member of the basketball team and played under legendary coach Larry Chapman. During his AUM career, the Senators played in the NAIA National Tournament, won the NAIA Southeast Region and were the Southern States Conference Champions.
Davis was named to the Coca-Cola Classic All-Tournament team, the AUM Christmas All-Tournament team and K-Crens All-Tournament team.
Dan and his wife Christi have been married for 10 years. They have two children, Abigail and Cooper.
