Jamey Newsome - Head Coach - 3rd Season

Jamey Newsome enters his third season as the head coach of the Auburn Montgomery women's soccer program. Newsome has a 20-15-2 record in his first two seasons after the Warhawks finished 8-9-1 in 2011.

Newsome led the team to a respectable finish last season, despite having to deal with the loss of four All-Americans from 2010. The Warhawks finished with a 7-4-1 record in the SSAC, good for fourth in the conference. Three players earned all-conference honors, and an additional three were named to the SSAC All-Academic team. Built on the strength of the returners from last year and a large group of newcomers, AUM enters 2012 receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 poll.

In his first season, Newsome continued the strong tradition of AUM team's, helping the Warhawks to as high as a No. 13 ranking in the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Top 25 Coaches' Poll and had the team ranked in the top 25 for 10 consecutive weeks. AUM finished the season among the others receiving votes following a 0-0 tie to three-time defending national champion Lee University, in which it lost in the eighth round of penalty kicks.

In addition to team success, several individuals flourished under Newsome's leadership. Jana Yates was named an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, as well as a first-team All-Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) performer last season. Yates, Daisy Burnfield, Amber Elam and Helga Franklinsdottir each earned SSAC All-West Division honors, while Susan Lotyczewski was named to the West Division All-Freshman team. The Warhawks also had six named to the SSAC All-Academic team, as well as one NAIA Scholar Athlete (Elam).

Prior to being named the fifth head coach of the women's soccer team, Newsome was most recently at Georgia Southern University where he has spent three years as an assistant coach for the women's team. While at GSU, Newsome assisted the head coach in various areas of coaching, recruiting and video analysis.

Newsome began his collegiate coaching experience in 1999 as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at the University of South Carolina Upstate, where they finished 12-3-3 and ranked 16th nationally. While at Upstate, Newsome was primarily involved in recruiting, player training and scheduling.

Newsome has also been involved with the Coweta Cannons Soccer Club in Newnan, Ga., as the technical director from 2001-03 and the director of coaching from 2003-04. Most recently, from 2005-07, he was the assistant director of the Darlington School Soccer Academy of Rome, Ga., where his duties included training, marketing, event planning and monitoring boarding students.S

ince 2006, Newsome has been involved with the Olympic Development Program (ODP), both in Alabama and Georgia, where he helps in the development of rising soccer talent in each state. He was recently named to the Region III ODP staff, where he assists in the selection of the all-region team. In addition, he is also actively involved in club soccer within the Montgomery area. Newsome is currently the Director of Coaching for FC Torjager. He also holds the United States Soccer Federation "B" License and is a USSF "D & E" Coaching License Instructor.

A native of Winston Salem, N.C., Newsome played collegiate soccer at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. There he was a four-year starter and received his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1997.

Newsome's head coaching experience began in 1997, when he was the boys' varsity soccer coach at Enka High School in Ashville, N.C. After a year he became the boy's and girl's varsity soccer coach at Madison High School in Marshall, N.C. where he remained until 1999.

Newsome is married to the former Jennifer Schommer, and the couple has two daughters, Mary Ryan and Leah, and a cat, Moe.
